Hey -
New episode today.
Most of us are waiting for permission. To relax. To take the risk. To finally live the life we keep telling ourselves we’ll get to. Once we retire. Once the kids are grown. Once we hit the number.
My guest this week calls it the finish line that keeps moving.
Tripp Lanier has coached men for more than twenty years. A lot of them were guys who climbed the ladder, got everything they were chasing, and then woke up wondering why it felt so hollow. He hosts The New Man Podcast and wrote a book called This Book Will Make You Dangerous. He is not the guy yelling at us to dominate, and he is not the guy asking us to perform our feelings on cue. He is the ground in between, which is exactly where most of us actually live.
He told me about a client. A man convinced he needed a small fortune before he could feel safe. So he was working all the time. Meanwhile his sons were a few years from leaving the house for good, and he was missing it.
Tripp asked him one question. What would your eighty-year-old self pay to come back to this moment, right now, with your boys?
The man broke down. Because there was no number. No amount of money he could ever earn would buy that back.
I have caught myself doing a version of this. Telling myself the real living starts later, once things settle, once the conditions are right. This episode is a good, hard look at that bargain and what it actually costs us.
If any of that sounds familiar, this one is for us.
Listen now:
Don’t fade.
